The Women’s NCAA Tournament bracket began their march through the Sweet 16 with four matchups in Birmingham, Alabama and Spokane, Washington. Among the eight teams playing today half hailed from the Carolinas, with second-seeded Duke taking on third-seeded UNC, top-seeded South Carolina taking on fourth-seeded Maryland, and second-seeded NC State facing third-seeded LSU. UCLA and Ole Miss rounded out the day from Spokane.
Defending national champions South Carolina faced the stiffest test of the day, outlasting Maryland 71-67 to keep their repeat title hopes alive. Westwood One’s Danny Reed and Debbie Antonelli had the call for us live from Birmingham.
